Garmin GPS
August 6th, 2007 by Tim   Subscribe To Our FeedAre you lost again? Okay, let me tell you what you do next. You turn around; head back to that gas station you just passed and ask for directions. Sure, your wife and kids will no longer respect you, but at least you’ll know where in the heck you’re going, right? For some reason this seems like the mentality of many men in America. In reality no one cares if you ask for directions or not. Believe me, the wife and kids really just want to get there, and fast. However, if you’re going to be stubborn, and simply insist on not asking for directions, then you better have an alternative plan. Yeah, you know what I’m referring to. Something that can assist you in getting from point A to point B without the help of a local. They’re called Garmin Nuvi gps systems, folks. In this day and age everyone should have one. It’s simply crazy not to. These babies are life-savers.
So I was planning a trip from Ohio to Iowa. Now, the truth of the matter is that I hate maps, and I’m not that good at following directions on paper. This is where my brother stepped in with one of the new-age garmin gps systems to save the day. He carries one at all times when he drives anywhere. It’s brilliant. The system just sticks to his windshield, making it easy to see and access. Anyway, he let me borrow it for my trip to Iowa. Wow, was this thing amazing. Not only do garmin gps systems map out your route to any preferred destination, but they also talk to you. Yep, that’s what I said; they talk to you. This is ideal. Every time something new comes up in the directions, the gps system tells you. Therefore, you really don’t even have to pay close attention. The gps voice will tell you where to go. Now, that’s not all. Here is my all-time favorite feature on these garmin gps systems. They have all locations programmed in. You want to know if a coffee shop is coming up soon? No problem; the garmin gps systems will inform you of every coffee shop that lies ahead. You can see exactly where any store, shopping center, or restaurant resides. The handy garmin gps systems will tell you how many miles away they are and if they are on your particular path or not. That is the bomb! So much information in such a small device. Once you have one of these contemporary Garmin Nuvi gps systems, you won’t be able to travel without it.

Bluetooth GPS
February 22nd, 2007 by Tim   Subscribe To Our FeedHow Does the Bluetooth GPS Work?
Bluetooth technology uses a small-area networking which allows you to remove user intervention all together. If you have Bluetooth GPS, you can load the information from your GPS directly into your computer without having to make any interventions.
For instance, if you have a blue tooth enabled GPS and a Bluetooth enabled PC at home, you can easily transfer the data you have in your GPS (such as maps and the like) to your computer as soon as to you get within the radius of the bluetooth signal.
Since the Bluetooth technology operates on protocol and agreement at the physical level, only the information that you authorize for transfer will be transferred to a certain destination so you don’t really need to worry about transferring unauthorized information.

What is GPS ?
February 20th, 2007 by Tim   Subscribe To Our FeedGPS, or the Global Positioning System, is a satellite navigation system that provides positioning and clock time to the terrestrial user. Essentially, the GPS receiver compares the time a signal was transmitted by a satellite with the time it was received. The time difference tells the GPS receiver how far away the satellite is. Now, with distance measurements from a few more satellites, the receiver can determine the user’s position and display it on the unit’s electronic map. Today’s GPS receivers are extremely accurate, thanks to their parallel multi-channel design. It can be used as a hand-held, in a boat, or can be mounted under the windscreen of a car, or within the panel of a boat control station for practical route guidance. It can be hooked up to a 12volt supply. GPS is one of the most fantastic utilities ever devised by man.

The GPS Wrist Watch
February 12th, 2007 by Tim   Subscribe To Our FeedCasio first introduced the GPS wrist watch in 1999. GPS watches are now more commonplace and are made by quite a few different manufacturers, and at very reasonable prices. You get your hands on one of these new GPS watches for under $100.
You may ask yourself why you might need or want a GPS watch? Here are four reasons to purchase a GPS watch:
Training. Most people who buy a GPS watch buy it for training. It tells you exactly how far you have traveled and how fast. Some GPS watches also include an altimeter so that you can track your vertical performance as well. You mark your location at the beginning of your training session, and the GPS notes your starting point and time. At any time during your training session, you can reacquire data. The GPS notes where you are and how much time has lapsed, and the little tiny computer in the watch calculates how far you have gone and how fast your are traveling.
Many GPS watches have other performance components built into them, too, such as heart rate monitors. It is truly a marvel at what can be put inside something so unobtrusive as a watch.

PDA and GPS: Your Best Traveling Companions
February 7th, 2007 by Tim   Subscribe To Our FeedWhen traveling in some uncharted places around the globe, it would be a good idea for you to bring along a PDA (personal digital assistant) and a GPS (Global Positioning System). The good thing about carrying a PDA and GPS on these trips is that that you could easily find the places you are going to. The PDA and GPS are two of the most important tools nowadays for people who are always on the go.
Taking your PDA and GPS on a Hiking and Trekking Adventure
If you are planning to go hiking and trekking in some rugged terrain for a couple of days you should bring along your PDA and GPS as you will need a GPS to help to navigate your course. With the GPS, you can easily trace your hiking trail and find out how far you have gone on your trip. Never for one moment be tempted to think that since you are going out for an adventure, you should go out there without bringing some gadgets like the PDA and GPS to help you out in some tricky situations. Note that it is always a good idea to be always prepared of any eventualities especially if you are going out alone in ht wilderness.
If you are a very busy person who needs to be kept abreast of all the things that are happening in the world even when you are out hiking in the wilderness, then there is all the more reason why you should bring along a PDA and GPS along. The PDA can keep you connected to the outside world and can help you get all the information that you will need for the day.
Packing Your PDA and GPS for the Trip
When packing you PDA and GPS for a trip to the wilderness, make sure that everything is in order before you set out. Check the batteries of the gadgets twice to make sure that they are working properly. If you will be out for a considerable period of time, it would be wise to bring along some extra batteries in case of you run out of batteries in the middle of nowhere. Remember that without any power source, you PDA and GPS will be virtually useless to you.
You should always remember that when packing your PDA and GPS in your backpack you should make sure that you put them is such a place where they will not be easily damaged. If fact, it would be wise to put these gadgets in a separate pocket.

GPS on The Golf Course..
February 1st, 2007 by Tim   Subscribe To Our FeedOne of the more difficult challenges a golfer comes up against on a golf course is being able to accurately judge their distance from different parts of the golf course. Not only is distance important in knowing how far you are from the hole, but knowing how far different parts of a fairway are and managing your game. Using a golf GPS unit can give a person a little edge in judging distances.
Lets look at one example, you are standing in a fairway, there may be a marker letting you know you are 150 yards to the center of the green. However, if there is a water hazard in front of the green, it will help to know how far you have to hit the ball to at least clear the lake or how far it is to the front of the lake to keep your ball from getting wet. A golf GPS unit with that particular course available can help you determine which club to use in which circumstance. If your golf game is anything like mine every little bit helps.
Of course, using a golf GPS unit will only be as helpful as the golfer is good. Knowing you are standing 136.2 yards from the center of the green will not help you hit the ball straight or keep it from flying into the water or sand trap on either side of the green, but a golf GPS unit can help you find out how far into the woods you hit the ball.
